Protect Your Debit Card:
Essential Tips to Keep Your Money Safe
Your debit card offers quick and easy access to your money, but it can also be a prime target for fraud. At TruEnergy FCU, we want to help you safeguard your finances and avoid becoming a victim of scams. Follow these essential tips to keep your debit card secure and your account protected.
1. Memorize Your PIN – Keep It Private
Writing down your PIN or storing it in your phone may seem convenient, but it’s a major security risk. Memorize your PIN and never share it with anyone, not even family or friends. Sharing your PIN could allow unauthorized access to your account.
2. Monitor Your Account Regularly
Stay on top of your finances by checking your transactions frequently through TruEnergy FCU’s online and mobile banking. If you see any suspicious activity, report it immediately to prevent further fraud.
3. Use Secure ATMs and Card Readers
Scammers install skimming devices on ATMs and card readers to steal your card information.
✔ Use ATMs inside bank branches rather than standalone machines.
✔ Always inspect card readers for anything loose, bulky, or unusual before inserting your card.
4. Set Up Account Alerts
Enable real-time transaction alerts through TruEnergy FCU’s CardNav App to receive notifications of any activity on your account. These alerts help you detect unauthorized transactions quickly. Download the app and learn more here: CardNav App
5. Never Share Your Card Details
Scammers often pretend to be banks or businesses to trick you into giving up your card information.
🚫 TruEnergy FCU will NEVER ask for your PIN or full card number via phone, email, or text. If someone asks, it’s a scam!
6. Enable Contactless Payments
Tap-to-pay technology is safer than inserting your card because it uses one-time encrypted codes instead of your actual card number. If your debit card has contactless payment, use it for an extra layer of security.
7. Use a Digital Wallet
Adding your debit card to a digital wallet provides extra security by replacing your real card number with a unique token, reducing fraud risks when making purchases.
✔ Apple Pay
✔ Google Pay
✔ Samsung Pay
Using a digital wallet is a safer, faster, and more convenient way to pay!
8. Avoid Banking on Public Wi-Fi
Public Wi-Fi networks can expose your sensitive information to hackers. Avoid logging into your bank accounts or making purchases while connected to public Wi-Fi. If necessary, use a VPN (Virtual Private Network) for added security.
9. Report Lost or Stolen Cards Immediately
If your debit card is lost or stolen, act fast! Call 888.241.2510 immediately to block unauthorized transactions and request a replacement.
Your security is our priority. By following these steps, you can keep your debit card safe and avoid potential fraud.
